Carrie Underwood’s family has always had her back.

The country superstar was born in March 1983 to parents Carole and Stephen Underwood and grew up in Oklahoma with older sisters Shanna and Stephanie. Three years after winning American Idol season 4 in 2005, Carrie met her now-husband, Mike Fisher, and the couple got engaged in December 2009.

Carrie and the former NHL player tied the knot in July 2010 and welcomed their eldest son, Isaiah, in March 2015. After the singer suffered three miscarriages within the span of two years, the pair’s family grew with the birth of son Jacob in January 2019.

In a December 2020 interview with Zane Lowe, Carrie opened up about her “very lucky” job as a mother of two. At the time, she revealed that quarantining at home with her family of four amid the COVID pandemic had brought them closer together than ever.

“I kind of got to maybe get back to some of my roots by not being on stage for a minute,” Carrie shared. “I got to be outside so much and I got to work in the garden and just be a mom and be a wife and be at home. It’s the most I’ve been still in over 15 years.”

Who Are Carrie Underwood’s Parents?

Though Carrie’s parents, Carole and Stephen, have remained relatively out of the spotlight over the years, Carole, however, opened up about her daughter’s rise to fame in a rare interview with Today in March 2021. “It didn’t really dawn on me at that particular moment what was possibly going to happen,” she said of Carrie’s 2005 American Idol win. “Up to this time, it was just a competition. She won, and then my next thought (was), ‘Well, where do we go from here?’”

She went on to note that her people “don’t realize that celebrities truly are just people,” adding, “They wash their clothes. They fold their clothes. You know? I just don’t want her to change how she is, and I think she [didn’t].”

Carole and Stephen celebrated 50 years of marriage in April 2018. “Today, we celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary … We listened to stories of how they met and their first years together…the good Lord sure did bless them … and us! ❤️❤️❤️,” Carrie captioned an Instagram post featuring pics of her parents’ anniversary celebration. “I think these crazy kids are gonna make it!”

Carrie grew up in Oklahoma as the youngest of three sisters. Unlike their youngest sister, Shanna Underwood Means and Stephanie U. Shelton, have kept their lives out of the public eye. The women, however, made a rare appearance on Carrie’s Instagram in July 2023, as the three of them got matching tattoos with their mother in Las Vegas.

Carrie and Fisher said “I do” two years after they first met in late 2008. Upon celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the two were “in an amazing place.”

The insider noted that quarantining together throughout the COVID-19 pandemic only strengthened their bond, sharing, “Their time with family has been amazing for them, and Carrie and Mike are growing closer together throughout quarantine and learning more and more about each other.”

Fans got an inside look into their home lives with Isaiah and Jacob in their 2020 docuseries Mike and Carrie: God and Country, which included discussions on how the duo overcomes arguments. “We learn from each other and have spirited discussions about things that we disagree on, but at the end of the day, we love each other very much,” Carrie explained during an episode of the show.

How Many Kids Does Carrie Underwood Have?

Underwood is a mother to two sons. The “Blown Away” singer welcomed her and Fisher’s first child, Isaiah, in February 2015. Over the years, Isaiah has gone on to follow in his mother’s musical footsteps as he appeared on Carrie’s 2020 Christmas album, “My Gift,” on the the track “Little Drummer Boy.”

“He loves to sing, and he has such a giving, loving heart about him,” Carrie told Entertainment Tonight in October 2020, noting that her eldest son gave his performance “his all.” For her 40th birthday in March 2023, Carrie shared the sweet cards her sons made for her special day. “4 Things Isaiah loves about me,” the “Cowboy Casanova” songstress captioned an Instagram Story snap at the time. “I love her snuggles, I love her kisses, I love her singing and most of all I love her love!”

Carrie gave birth to her and Fisher’s second child in January 2019. Jacob’s birth came one year after Carrie revealed she had suffered multiple miscarriages over the course of two years. “I got mad … I was like, ‘Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? Shut the door. Like, do something. Either shut the door or let me have a kid,’” she told CBS Sunday Morning in September 2018. “And for the first time, I feel like I actually I told God how I felt.”

Days after the “All-American Girl” singer gave birth to her second child, Fisher called their baby boy a “gift from our Lord” in a sweet Instagram post. “The last few years has had its challenges and it makes this moment even more sweet! We didn’t know if Izzy would ever have another sibling but we learned through it all that God is in control and his timing is perfect! He is good all the time even in the difficult times that are hard to understand.”

Much like his big brother, Jacob listed his favorite things about his famous mother for her 40th birthday in March 2023. “1. When she kisses me. 2. How much she loves me. 3. She’s beautiful. 4. Her snuggles. 5. When she dresses up. I like her dress,” the then-4-year-old wrote in his card to Carrie.
