WESTCHESTER, LOS ANGELES () — A wild police chase that started in Camarillo ended with a homicide suspect taking his own life in Westchester on Saturday, according to the sheriff’s department.

The suspect was wanted in the deadly shooting of a man in Camarillo just before noon. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene on Walker Avenue.

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies later found the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but said he took off, sparking the chase.

At one point in the chase, he was going so fast that deputies lost sight of him, according to the sheriff’s department. The suspect reportedly reached speeds of more than 100 mph on the southbound 101 Freeway.

Los Angeles police eventually picked up the chase on the 405 Freeway.

Police said the driver eventually stopped, and at some point after stopping, died by suicide inside the car.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. The identities of the murder victim and suspect who died were not immediately released.
