The Bachelor alum Kit Keenan is offering “a little bit of context” into how she managed to purchase an apartment in New York City — without her mom, fashion designer Cynthia Rowley’s help.

“I grew up with immense privilege and an incredibly supportive family,” Keenan, 26, said in a TikTok video shared on Friday, December 26. “My mom didn’t buy this apartment. but she did let me live at home until age 26.”

Keenan, who briefly appeared on Matt James’ season of The Bachelor in 2021, revealed via social media earlier this month that she bought a plush complex in the Big Apple.

According to Keenan, she had been “saving [her money] aggressively” while living under Rowley’s roof.

Former Bachelor Matt James shared the surprising amount he pays in rent on his luxury apartment in New York City. “She also introduced me to my accountant and my financial advising team at age 18 when I made my first paycheck,” the influencer explained. “She led by example and showed me the importance of financial independence as a woman and why investing in real estate matters.”

Rowley, 67, shares Kit with ex-husband William Keenan Jr., as well as 20-year-old daughter Gigi with her current husband, William Powers. As for her business, Rowley launched her eponymous fashion label in 1988 to eventual global success. She has also authored several books and cohosts her “Ageless” podcast with Kit.

“[My mom’s] career and notoriety has given me so much access. I’ve definitely capitalized on it on my own social media,” Kit admitted on Friday. “It also allowed me to get on a reality TV show at age 21, which introduced me to an audience far beyond my original niche.”

Despite using her privilege to gain acclaim online, Kit stressed that Rowley “didn’t cosign [her] loan or contribute to [the] down payment or pay for [her] mortgage” at all.

“I think it’s OK to say I’m very proud to have done that all by myself,” Kit said. “I’ll be honest and say I wanted to share this, partially because of my own ego, but I also want to pen this conversation because this is genuinely my dream job.”

According to Kit, working as a content creator has “created opportunities far beyond [her] wildest dreams.”

“I’ve also watched it create stability and independence for so many of my peers,” she noted. “If you’ve been curious about creating content and embarrassment is what’s holding you back, I want you to know it has been so worth it for me in more ways than I could have ever expected.”

Kit closed on the property on Tuesday, December 23.

“Today is a very exciting day because I’m closing on my apartment,” she said in an Instagram video. “I’m so nervous, and as much as I feel excited, I also feel like this is way over my head. How am I doing this? How did I get to this point? It’s been such a long time coming and so many years of saving.”

Kit, who did bring her mom with her to sign the title, has since been over-the-moon about her residential milestone.

“[I’m] so proud of myself and so excited for this new chapter,” she concluded at the time.
