Argentinian Singer Fede Dorcaz Dead at 29 After Alleged Attempted Robbery in Mexico City

Argentinian singer Fede Dorcaz has died. He was 29.

“The HOY family mourns the sensitive passing of our friend and colleague, Fede Dorcaz. We join the pain that bears his entire family, his parents and his girlfriend, Mariana Ávila,” a Friday, October 10, Instagram statement from Mexican broadcaster Hoy reads. “Mariana and Fede were one of our predicted couples for the new season of Las Strellas Bailan today.”

The statement concludes, “Fede leaves a big void in our team. His memory and passion will continue to inspire us forever. Rest in Peace Fede Dorcaz.”

Dorcaz was scheduled to appear on Las Strellas Bailan — the Mexican version of Dancing With the Stars — upon its premiere later this month, just days before he died. Ávila would have been Dorcaz’s partner.

Hollywood has mourned the deaths of some of its most legendary stars in 2025. January brought the tragic news of the death of Twin Peaks cocreator David Lynch. February saw the death of Gossip Girl alum Michelle Trachtenberg. Boxing great George Foreman died in March, Val Kilmer passed in April and one month later, Duck […]

Multiple local reports claimed that Dorcaz was shot dead on Thursday, October 9, while driving in Mexico City on the way home from dance rehearsals. The outlets reported that authorities believe Dorcaz was involved in an attempted robbery. An investigation is currently ongoing.

“Video surveillance cameras in the area are being analyzed to identify the likely perpetrators who, according to initial reports, were traveling on two motorcycles,” a spokesperson for the Mexico City Secretariat of Public Safety told The Independent in a statement.

Hours later, Ávila broke her silence on Dorcaz’s death.

“I love you with all my heart like I tell you everyday,” Ávila wrote on Friday in the comments section of Dorcaz’s last Instagram post. “Baby boy, come back please I don’t want to spend another day without you.”

Dorcaz was a rising star in the Latin pop industry, performing 10 sold-out concerts in Mexico last year and releasing hits such as “No Eres Tú” and “Cara Bonita.” The musician’s debut album, Instinto, dropped earlier this year.

“This album is my soul. Every lyric, every note, is a reflection of who I am and where I come from,” Dorcaz told Rolling Stone in May, going on to detail his love of performing live. “It’s not just about performing. It’s about creating a moment people will carry with them forever.”

He continued, “I want to be more than just a musician. I want to show people that you can build something amazing from nothing and inspire others to chase their dreams.”

Dorcaz frequently documented his musical accomplishments via Instagram.

“Probably one of the most beautiful moments of my life and career, everything I ever dreamed of is happening and we just sang in the Arena Monterrey,” Dorcaz wrote via Instagram in December 2024, referring to his festival set in Mexico. “Thank you for all the love and affection you gave me. [I] will never forget and hopefully the beginning of many more.  ❤️ Thank you for inviting me to sing @_digital_mx 🔝 🎤 🌟.”

Dorcaz last posted on Instagram on October 2, sharing images from Michael Kors’ New York Fashion Week presentation. His social media followers started sharing their condolences in the comments section in light of his death.

“I love you friend, rest in peace you have been a joy and example of whoever follows it,” one Instagram user wrote, with another adding, “So full of life, so full of goals, and his life taken by the insecurity of a country he loved like his own.”
