Arrests made after 2 teenagers stabbed near Burbank High School

BURBANK, Calif. () — Two 16-year-old boys were stabbed at a parking lot near Burbank High School Friday afternoon, police said.

A large crowd of students gathered at an Office Depot parking lot across the school when the violence erupted around 2:45 p.m., according to the Burbank Police Department.

An altercation broke out, resulting two in two people getting stabbed.

The suspects and victims fled the area before officers arrived but the victims were later found at a hospital, Burbank police said in a news release. Police said the victims, both 16 years old, had multiple stab wounds and were in stable condition.

The victims are believed to be Burbank High students, police said.

A vehicle involved in the incident was found at an apartment complex in the 300 block of South Third Street. That’s where two teenagers – ages 16 and 17 – were detained and later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after witnesses identified them as the suspects in the stabbing, according to police.

“We want to reassure our families and community that Burbank High School remains safe,” the Burbank Unified School District said in a statement. “All students, faculty, and support staff are secure, and there is no ongoing threat to campus safety. Dismissal will proceed as scheduled.”

The school district said the identities of those involved in the incident are known, and that “appropriate steps are being taken in coordination with law enforcement and district protocols.”
