A fresh batch of movies has arrived at Peacock, and it’s going to make selecting films to watch for the weekend a little more difficult than usual.
It’s a good problem to have, especially since so many of its streaming rivals are buried in Christmas movies.
The Watch With Us team has narrowed the new selections down to the three great Peacock movies to binge-watch this weekend.
Our picks include one of the best cinematic adaptations of a TV show, a classic rom-com and arguably the ultimate sports movie.
‘The Addams Family’ (1991)
As much as we enjoy Wednesday on Netflix, it hasn’t matched the sheer chaotic energy and big laughs of The Addams Family movie from 1991. The late Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston were perfectly cast as Gomez and Morticia Addams, while Christina Ricci had a breakout performance as their daughter, Wednesday. The Addams are deliriously happy with each other, although Gomez laments that his brother, Fester, has been missing for years.
That leads Gomez’s crooked lawyer, Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya), and Abigail Craven (Elizabeth Wilson) to hatch a scheme to steal the Addams family fortune. Abigail’s adoptive son, Gordon (Christopher Lloyd), is a dead ringer for Fester, and Gomez is overjoyed to have his brother back. To Gordon’s shock, the Addams are so welcoming to him that he finds it incredibly difficult to betray their trust.

‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ (2001)
There aren’t many rom-coms that become franchises, but there have been three sequels to Bridget Jones’s Diary, the most recent released earlier this year. Regardless, the original movie is still the best, and it’s very loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Renée Zellweger plays Bridget Jones, a woman in her early ’30s who is inspired to turn her life around after a negative reunion with her childhood acquaintance, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).
The first week of December brings some unexpected gifts from Paramount+, Netflix and Prime Video. Bridget’s self-improvement doesn’t go unnoticed at work, and she soon begins dating her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). However, Bridget’s subsequent encounters with Mark soften their opinions of each other, and she may find her heart torn between two men. The real question isn’t about who Bridget will end up with; it’s about what it will take for her to finally get the happiness she desperately wants.

‘Rocky’ (1976)
When it comes to inspirational sports stories, there aren’t many that will ever top Rocky. Sylvester Stallone wrote the script and had to insist that he star in it as well before he relinquished the rights. The result was a Best Picture winner at the Oscars that set the standard for every underdog story that came after it.
Robert “Rocky” Balboa is a journeyman boxer who has never made it to the top of the sport. When the world champion, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), needs a replacement opponent, Rocky is the surprise pick. Nobody takes Rocky seriously as a threat to Apollo in the ring, but the former does discover the confidence he needs to romantically pursue Adriana “Adrian” Pennino (Talia Shire). Even as the film approaches its 50th anniversary next year, the Rocky theme and the iconic visuals of Rocky training in downtown Philadelphia are still stirring.
