WEST COVINA, Calif. () — The West Covina Police Department Saturday is seeking the public’s help in locating an abducted 18-month-old child.

West Covina officers were called at 5:50 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 1600 block of East Mardina Steet regarding a reported kidnapping. They subsequently learned the infant — a baby boy named Isaiah Sunel Nava — was taken from the home by his estranged aunt, 26-year-old Amber Alexis Destiny Zarate, said police Sgt. Steve Steve Spagon.

Investigators obtained surveillance video showing Zarate in the area at the time of the abduction. Zarate is on parole, a known drug user, has violent tendencies, and has outstanding warrants for her arrest, according to police.

Zarate is homeless and frequents the Los Angeles area. She was last seen wearing a black top, white pants, and carrying a black backpack.

The whereabouts of Zarate and the baby remain unknown and they are believed to be traveling on foot, police said. Detectives, patrol personnel and allied law enforcement agencies are actively working to locate the child safely.

Anyone who sees Zarate or the child is urged to call 911 immediately. Anyone with information about this kidnapping is asked to call the West Covina Police Department at 626-939-8500. Anonymous callers may call the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers by telephone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by email at info@lacrimestoppers.org.
